NONGPOH: In what may be termed as an exemplary display of valor and love for an infant sibling, a 13-year-old girl put her life into extreme risk to save her brother from an inferno that had engulfed their home at Pahamrioh Village under Nongpoh PS in Ri Bhoi District.
The incident occurred at around 2.30 pm on Sunday afternoon when the brave heart Angelica Tynsong was outside the house while her seven-month-old brother Carmel Tynsong was asleep inside. Their parents – Ritnenglang Shangpliang and Litidian Tynsong – were not present in the house at the time of the incident.
Narrating her heroic tale to this correspondent, Angelica said, “I was washing clothes outside when I suddenly saw my home on fire. I came running to my home remembering that Hep (as she fondly calls her little brother) was sleeping inside and I could not let anything happen to him for I love him a lot.”
“I was a little scared since the fire was at its peak but my love for Hep made me strong and firm so I entered our home by taking proper care,” she went on to say.
“After a struggle I managed to reach the room where my little brother was sleeping and then I wrapped him and myself in a blanket and again returned the same way but this time I was more careful. I had a silent prayer in my heart as I managed to come out of our home despite the blazing fire,” she added.
Angelica is the second of seven siblings in the house and is a student of Class-II in Presbyterian LP School, Pahamrioh.
Despite having lost their home, the parents, who live from hand to mouth, were all praise for their brave daughter.
Her neighbours, too, were all praise for her heroic act and hoped that she will be among the little children who will be honored by the Central government for her bravery during the next Republic Day celebration.
