SHILLONG: After months of dilly-dallying, the Committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh, which has been asked to work on few required amendments to further strengthen the existing Prohibition of Benami Transaction Act, 1980 and Tenants Verification Draft Bill, has submitted its report.
The committee submitted its report to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on January 31, informed Lyngdoh on Monday.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister, in the report the committee incorporated the views and suggestions submitted by the GHADC only.
“Everyone is aware that the two autonomous district councils (KHADC and JHADC) have failed to submit their recommendations,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
It may be recalled that both KHADC and JHADC had also failed to attend meetings convened by the committee to discuss on the two laws.
He said that the committee had made a few suggestions for strengthening the Benami Transaction Act, 1980.
“We have redrafted Bill which we have proposed to call as the ‘Meghalaya Regulation and Verification of Households Bill’,” Lyngdoh said.
