Food poisoning in school: Students hospitalised
Mangaluru:More than 20 students of a girls’ residential school near here have been hospitalised following ‘food poisoning’ after taking lunch in their hostel and five staff, including the warden, suspended, police said on Tuesday. The students of the Morarji Desai Residential School for minority community girls in Deralakatte were admitted to a private hospital last evening after they complained of symptoms of food poisoning like stomach pain and vomiting after having the lunch yesterday, they said.The incident was immediately reported to the Minority Department officer, who ordered the suspension of five staff members, including the warden and cook of the hostel, for their alleged negligence.(PTI)
Two, including newborn girl, die of swine flu in Gwalior
Gwalior:Two persons, including a newborn, have died of swine flu here during the last 24 hours, a health official said. A girl born on Monday night died at around 4 AM on Tuesday at the government-run Kamla Raja hospital (KRH). Confirming that the newborn baby was suffering from swine flu, district’s Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Anup Kamthan said that the girl’s mother Suman was shifted to an isolation ward of KRH. A team of medical staffers has been sent to New Sanjay Nagar locality, where Suman lives, to find out if some more people there are infected with the H1N1 virus, he said. Besides, Archana, who was suffering from swine flu, was admitted to KRH where she died on Monday, he said.(PTI)
1 killed in clash over property dispute in UP
Baghpat:One person was killed and two others were injured in a clash over property dispute in Baghpat police station area here, an official said on Tuesday. 35-year-old Ram Kumar was killed and two others, including a woman, were injured as rival faction opened fire on Monday, SP Sharad Sachan said. The deceased had sold some land but was not handing it over following a dispute over payment, the SP said adding that it took a violent turn during a meeting held near Parashuram enclave to resolve the dispute. An FIR naming ten persons has been lodged, of whom two have been arrested with a revolver. The accused have also charged the other faction of opening fire but no evidence to prove this has been found yet, the SP said.(PTI)
Powerful can-bomb defused in Jharkhand
Jamshedpur:Security personnel have detected and defused a powerful can-bomb in Jharkhand’s naxal-affected West Singhbhum district, a senior police officer said on Tuesday. Following a tip-off, the security personnel comprising CRPF personnel and district police force, detected the bomb on Tiriposi-Bitkilsoya road while on patrol on Monday, Superintendent of Police, N K Singh said. Later, the bomb was defused by the bomb disposal squad, he added. (PTI)
Body found hanging inside train’s toilet in UP
Kanpur:Body of a 30-year-old man was found hanging inside a ladies coach’s toilet in the Unchahar Express, a Government Railway Police (GRP) official said on Tuesday. The incident came to light on Monday night when a female passenger at the Kanpur railway station tried to visit the train’s toilet but found it locked from the inside. She also knocked on the toilet door continuously but when no one answered she informed the Railway police, a GRP spokesperson said. The GRP personnel then found the body hung by a piece of cloth inside the toilet, (PTI)
