Government school headmaster commits suicide
Bundi (Raj): A 53-year-old headmaster of a government primary school allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Akoda village here, police said on Wednesday. The incident came to light on Tuesday when the body of the deceased, identified as Puranmal Khenchi, a resident of Jhawarnagar Housing Board colony, was found hanging by passers-by in the forests of Akoda village, Assistant Sub- Inspector (ASI) Bhawani Singh of Dablana police station said. On receiving information, police took down the body and seized a bag containing copies of application for transfer and slips of medical prescriptions, he said, adding, prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide. The deceased was in depression, the ASI said, adding, the postmortem would be carried out on Wednesday. A case has been registered in this connection and further investigations are on, he said. Ritish Sansdaya, a government teacher and leader of local teachers’ association said the headmaster was under depression for overwork and wanted a transfer or voluntary retirement.(PTI)
Driver’s alertness averts possible mishap on Pune-Indore route
Vadodara:The driver of the Pune-Indore express averted a possible mishap yesterday near Palej area in the district, Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said on Wednesday. The alert driver of the Pune-Indore express, while en-route to Indore, applied brake as he saw a cement sleeper lying on the track near Palej area, around 60 kms from here, thereby averting a possible derailment, assistant sub- inspector at GRP, Bharuch police station, Rafiq said. Meanwhile, Western Railway, Vadodara division official P S Gill said that the driver after applying brake, heard some noise emerging out from the engine. He then checked it and after inspecting, found no major damage. The train was halted on the spot for nearly 26 minutes and resumed after all engine operations were checked, Gill said. No rail traffic on the route was affected due to it, he added. (PTI)
4 killed, 12 injured in road accident
Hathras:Four persons, including three women, were killed and 12 others injured in a collision between a tempo and truck here, police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred yesterday on the Hathras-Mathura road on a narrow bridge on Karvan river when the victims were returning after extending wedding invitation in a nearby village, police said. The tempo in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck, killing four persons, identified as Gudiya (30), Yashoda Devi (53), Rajvati (50) and the tempo driver Chandravir Saraswat (25), and injuring 12 others, police said. While the dead bodies have been sent for post-mortem, the 10 seriously injured have been admitted to the Aligarh Medical College Hospital, they said. A case has been registered against the truck driver who has been taken into custody, police said, adding further investigations are on. (PTI)
Children taken ill after consuming halwa Sant
Kabirnagar (UP):Two children were taken ill after consuming sweet dish in Bajariya locality in Khalilabad police station area here, police said on Wednesday. The children aged 13 and nine years had consumed ‘halwa’ given to them by one of their neighbours yesterday following which they were taken ill and rushed to the district hospital where their condition is still critical, they said. The mother of the children, Reena, said that after the death of her husband recently, one of their neighbours Harikant was eyeing their house and land. She alleged that Harikant had sent the “poisonous” halwa to her children. (PTI)
