Abductors set teacher free

TURA: An Assistant teacher of Tura Christian Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Iqbal Rafique, who was kidnapped on Sunday morning by unidentified miscreants from Mankachar, was released on Thursday.
According to West Garo Hills Police, a former cadre of the ANVC (B), one Silgrak Sangma was arrested on Wednesday from near the Nehru Park area in Danakgre in connection with the abduction. The former militant had come to pick up the ransom in exchange for Rafique along with two others who managed to escape in the darkness.
A 9 mm pistol with five live rounds of ammunition was also recovered from the arrested ex-militant.
Later, an amount of Rs 5 lakh meant as ransom for the kidnappers was also recovered from the family of the victim. While it is unclear whether any ransom was paid to the kidnappers, but it is believed that the victim was set free fearing a police raid after one of them was arrested.
