Minor fire breaks out at NIA court

Kochi: A minor fire that broke out at the NIA court, where various NIA cases, including Palm Chopping case and the Panayikulam SIMI cases were being heard, here on Wednesday night, destroying a computer and Photostat machine.  Though there were some unofficial reports that some valuable documents related to crucial cases registered by the NIA, including Palm chopping case and the Panayikulam SIMI cases, were gutted in the fire, City Police Commissioner K G Jame ruled out its possibility. Ruling out any such possibility, he told UNI that the police were examining whether there were any crucial document had been destroyed in the incident, which came to light in the morning.Stating that there was nothing suspicious on the fire, the Commissioner said that electricity engineers found that the cause for the fire was short circuit.(UNI)

Nursery girl molested by 16-year-old in school

Sitapur:A five year-old girl was allegedly molested by a teenager inside a school in Kaziara locality here, triggering protest against the school authority on Thursday, police said. The nursery student was molested in the school premises on Wednesday by the 16-year-old accused, who is also the son of the school owner, police said. After the minor narrated the incident to her parents, the family members along with locals ransacked the school today morning, damaging school properties, police said. However, the protesters were pacified by the police and the situation was brought under control, they said. The school manager and the owner have been taken into custody, while the accused is absconding. Efforts were on to nab the accused teenager, police said adding the investigations are underway. (PTI)

18 arrested for attacking Odisha village

Malkangiri: As many as 18 persons, including two women, have been arrested for allegedly attacking Tangapalli village in Maoist-affected Malkangiri district of Odisha three days ago. While 16 of the attackers had been captured by the villagers after the incident on Monday night, two others who had escaped were nabbed by police from Mathili area today, police officials said. Around 40 people, including women, armed with sharp weapons, bows and arrows had attacked the village late Monday night, but the villagers overpowered 16 of them, while others fled, they said. Police later brought the 16 detainees, dubbed by the villagers as Maoists, to Malkangiri and interrogated them at length to establish their identities, police said, adding two others belonging to the group were also caught by police. Though it was found that the detainees had no link with the red rebels, they were arrested for undertaking an attack with weapons, threatening the villagers and trying to loot, they said. (PTI)
