SHILLONG: Pinewood defeated Langsning SC by 6 wickets in the league match of the First Division Shillong Cricket League 2015 organised by the Shillong Cricket Association at the SCA Cricket Ground, Polo on Thursday. Elected to bat first after winning the toss Langsning SC were all out for 170 runs in 35 overs. Eugene K Kharsyntiew scored 41 runs of 70 balls while Javed Jyrwa scored 38 runs of 21 balls. Arbin Singh claim 2/29 runs of 7 overs. and Pritam Singh took 1/19 runs of 7 overs. In reply, Pinewood CC reached the target 174 runs losing 4 wickets in 33.2 overs. Kenny Wann topscore with 51 runs of 75 balls and Krishna Thapa 45 runs of 58 balls. Sanvert Kurkalang took 2/32 runs off 7 overs. Next match, Febraury 6: First Division: 1st MLP v/s Royal CC.
Sri Lanka offers $1 mn bonus to lift World Cup
Colombo: Sri Lanka’s government Thursday announced a million dollar bonus to the national cricket team if they win this month’s cricket World Cup being played in New Zealand and Australia. “We have decided to offer this money to be shared among the team as an incentive for them to bring the World Cup,” government spokesman Rajitha Senaratne told reporters. Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996 under the leadership of Arjuna Ranatunga who has since entered politics and is the current minister of ports, shipping and aviation. Members of the 1996 squad were rewarded with duty free cars, free houses and land in addition to huge cash awards that poured in from private companies. (AFP)
RCB get Mandeep Singh from Kings XI Punjab for IPL 2015
Bangalore: Royal Challengers Bangalore have traded top-order batsman Mandeep Singh from Kings XI Punjab ahead of the eighth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), starting April 9.Mandeep has been a consistent performer at the domestic and junior levels, and also in the IPL, over the years. He won the Emerging Player Award for his performance in the 2012 season of the tournament. Mandeep is sixth player, who has been traded ahead of the 2015 season. Royal Challengers Bangalore had also traded Iqbal Abdulla from Rajasthan Royals. “The second trading window before the 2015 season of the Pepsi IPL closes on Friday, 6 February 2015. There will be a third trading window immediately after the 2015 Pepsi IPL Player Auction, which will take place on Monday, 16 February 2015,” BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said in a release. (PTI)
Bayern Munich defender Boateng gets 3-match ban
Berlin: Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng was Thursday banned for three matches following his red card in Tuesday’s game against FC Schalke 04. Boateng committed a professional foul against Sidney Sam in the 17th minute of the 1-1 draw in the Bundesliga match Wednesday, reports Xinhua. The German Football Federation (DFB) said Boateng was suspended by its disciplinary tribunal for unsporting behaviour. He will miss Bayern’s visits to VfB Stuttgart and SC Paderborn 07 and a home match against SV Hamburg. (IANS)
