One killed in bomb explosion at Indo-Myanmar border
Imphal:One person was killed and another seriously injured when a powerful bomb exploded along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, a police official said on Friday. The explosion occurred at Tarong village near Indo-Myanmar border last evening, the official said, adding that the bomb was planted by suspected militants on the roadside to attack the security personnel posted there. One person died on the spot in the blast while the injured has been rushed to hospital where his condition is stated to be serious, the police officer said. The official said the bomb was so powerful that the explosion could be heard some kilometres away from the spot. He said major insurgent organisations active along the border areas might have planted the bomb but no individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the explosion. (PTI)
Man’s body found from nearby forest after he kills 3,injures 1
Aizawl:Body of a 30-year-old man was found from forest area under mysterious circumstances, hours after he went on a rampage allegedly killing three persons, including two children, and critically injuring a woman with a machete in Hailakandi district, police said on Thursday. Doinaram allegedly attacked Rachoron (25) with a weapon and injured him seriously in the village on Wednesday. The victim died at Kolasib district hospital in Mizoram, police officials said. Later, Doinaram attacked a 37-year-old woman, Jadobi, and her three-year-old son and two-year-old daughter with a machete, killing the children on the spot, they said. Jadobi was rushed to Kolasib district hospital with multiple injuries. Her condition was stated to be critical, they said. Doinaram’s body was found in the nearby jungle in Hailakandi district last night, they said. (PTI)
TCS donates patient care system to Operation Smile
Kolkata: IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), donated an end-to-end patient care system developed for Operation Smile, as part of their CSR activity. “TCS has developed and donated a Patient Care System to Operation Smile India and hosted the same on BSNL cloud server. “The Patient Care System will enable a consolidated view of all patients treated and various interventions done by the team at the Guwahati Centre,” Maj Gen M S Sandhu, Senior Advisor to the Board of Trustees said. From the paper-based files to paperless web-based solution, the enhanced patient care system would provide seamless integration of various work flows like screening, surgery and follow up with real-time information, to assist the Operation Smile team to plan its activities effectively and efficiently, a TCS statement said. Operation Smile, an NGO dedicated to providing treatment to children born with clefts, had conducted free medical evaluations for over 35,000 patients and provided free corrective surgeries to more than 22,000 patients. HIV(+) auto-driver discards worries to join awareness drive
Itanagar:An HIV-positive man here shook off worries, trauma and ill-treatment at the hands of his own family to become part of an organisation working to create awareness about the deadly disease. In doing so, 30-year-old Yumrin Nokpa, an auto driver, has set an example before others, who also tested positive with the HIV virus, to think positively. “Initially, I faced many problems. I was pushed out from my home by my family members, was beaten up in public places and endured social discrimination,” he said. “Since I am an auto driver, all my colleagues tried to avoid me. I was also asked to vacate my rented house by the landlord. Now I am residing at a doctor’s house in Naharlagun,” Nokpa, who hails from Tirap district, said. Nokpa said after being diagnosed with the disease, he felt frustrated and even contemplated suicide at one time, but after counselling and encouragement from a few members of the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) he got a new lease of life. “Now I am leading life with a positive frame of mind along with my wife and two sons. My wife is also an AIDS patient. But, my two sons are free from HIV,” he said. (PTI)
Nine Assam Rilfes personnel injured in IED blast
Guwahat:At least nine Assam Rifles personnel were on Friday injured in an IED blast at Monmao village in Arunachal Pradesh near the Indo-Myanmar border. The improvised explosive devise, planted on the road in the remote village in Changlang district, went off at around 2.30 pm when the security personnel were on a routine patrol duty, Defence spokesman Lt Col Suneet Newton said here. The injured troops were evacuated for medical treatment, he said. The militant outfit involved in the explosion was yet not immediately known as investigations are on, the spokesman added. (PTI)
