SHILLONG: The Syiem of  Mylliem syiemship, Latho Manik Syiem has decided to give one month’s time to the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB)
to complete the work of properly installing the water pipes inside Iewduh market.
While talking to newsmen here on Friday, Syiem said that the people who frequently visit the market are facing great difficulties in negotiating the narrow paths over which water pipes, many of them leaking, are laid in a haphazard manner. Many of them are lying in the middle of the road, Syiem pointed out.
The Syiem said his office has received several complaints from the general public about these water pipes.
The Syiem of Mylliem recalled that there was a joint inspection from the side of the Hima and SMB in 2013 where the officials of the Board
had assured that they would immediately take up the work of properly installing the water pipes inside the market. “It is now more than two years but the SMB has not fulfilled its commitment,” he said.
Syiem also said that the general standards and surroundings of the market will improve once the water pipes are properly installed. He also informed that he had already issued a directive to all the shopkeepers and vendors not to dump garbage in a haphazard manner.
“We will take stringent action against people who fail to comply with the directive,” the Syiem of Hima Mylliem said.
