SHILLONG: Meghalaya will soon have an ‘incubation-Centre’ to equip the youths with adequate skills that will empower over 5,000 youths in the state.
Informing this here on Saturday, Union Minister of State for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh said that the proposed incubation centre would provide skill training to youths and entrepreneurs of Meghalaya.
Stating that around five thousand youths would be trained in the centre, the minister asserted that the Government intends to provide training to 700 youths from the state in different sectors such as fruit processing, handicraft and IT sector etc.
“I also intend to develop a cluster of traditional agro products like honey bee in Meghalaya since the Government is focusing on youths of the country,” the Union minister said.
Singh also talked about empowering the women folks by establishing a Charka run by solar energy. Stating the total population of women is 50 crore, he said, “The Charka is my dream project targeting that at least 10 per cent of the women can earn Rs 5,000 per month.
On the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), he said that the Centre has targeted 1133 MPEGP projects to be implemented in Meghalaya out of which 185 has been sanctioned.
He said 5111 projects have also been targeted in Assam , adding the Government has targeted 13337 projects under PMEGP in the entire North East.
“I will meet the officers of the department here to find out why all the projects are not sanctioned,” he told reporters.
The Union minister is on a two-day visit to Shillong and during his visit, the minister would hold a review meeting on Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) with the officials of the Commerce and industries department.
