Tripura CPI-M collects funds of Rs 16.92 lakh for Assam riot victims

Agartala:Tripura CPI-M party has accumulated funds of Rs 16.92 lakh for aiding the victims of communal riots in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts of Assam in December last, said party state secretary Bijan Dhar here on Friday.
Addressing media, Mr Dhar said party’s all 244 local committees had collected funds from people even in the villages besides, towns and government employees in the most transparent manner immediately after thousands of people became homeless in riots.
He however, stated that the party will send the money to CPI-M central committee, which had launched collection drive across the country to extend support to the riot victims of Assam besides, a fortnight long protest against carnage in Assam and growing incidences of terrorism in the country on January 1 last.
“The central committee will distribute the fund among the victims in their own mechanism through Assam CPI-M committee,”  Dhar said, adding that the rehabilitation of the victims was not adequate and still the Adivasis residing in the camps were living a miserable life.(UNI)
