SHILLONG: A day after Independent MDC James Sylliang claimed that he was offered the post of KHADC Deputy Chairman, Council CEM Adelbert Nongrum shot back rubbishing the remark.
“He (Sylliang) had come with the offer to give unconditional support to ARPA. I never offered him the post (Deputy Chairman). There is no truth in the claim of the independent MDC,” Nongrum stated after the meeting of the ARPA here on Thursday.
He added that Sylliang had been sending feelers to him about his eagerness to be part of the APRA for the last one month.
“I never responded to such feelers,” the KHADC CEM said adding that though the alliance was not against any MDC trying to get into its ranks, anyone intending to join the ARPA must submit his/her request in writing. It may be mentioned that Sylliang, a former member of the ARPA, had deserted the alliance few days after it was formed to join the Congress-led opposition, KHUDA.
CEM ‘justifies’ HSPDP MDC’s ‘no-confidence motion’ threat
Meanwhile, the KHADC CEM said that he has not been able to convene the meeting of the Rangbah Shnong following the ruling of the High Court since some of them had decided to file an appeal against the judgment of the court.
Nongrum was reacting to the threat of HSPDP member Pyniaid Sing Syiem to move a non confidence motion for not calling a meeting of Rangbah Shnong.
“I am not disappointed over the threat of Syiem to move a no-confidence motion against the EC for not responding to his suggestion. As a concerned MDC, he has every right to make such a remark,” he said.
Majority of the HSPDP MDCs did not attend the ARPA meeting on Thursday. Reacting to a query Nongrum said that the HSPDP members had already intimated him of their inability to attend the meet since they were pre-occupied.
KP Pangniang, Morningstar Mawsor, Ardent M Basaiawmoit and Pyniaid Sing Syiem were among the HSPDP MDCs who gave the meeting a miss.
