SHILLONG: The proscribed HNLC has called for a 12-hour bandh on Monday protesting alleged vandalisation of a prominent Christian school in South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar by unidentified miscreants and injustice perpetrated against Christians residing in the national capital.
The 12-hour bandh will be effective from 5 am to 5 pm in the whole Khasi and Jaintia Hills region.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the publicity secretary of the outfit Saiñkupar Nongtraw said that his organization has given the bandh call protesting injustice being faced by drivers on the National Highway and the state government’s dilly-dally in making Mookhep firing probe report public.
Media persons, people going to hospitals, milkmen and religious ceremonies are exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Secretary PBO Warjri has warned of stern action against those government employees who abstain from attending office on next Monday.
In a statement, the Chief Secretary has informed that all measures have been taken to ensure normalcy in the State.
Meanwhile, a statement from political department said that Government has taken all steps to ensure that all government offices, institutions and banks function normally on that day.
The SP (City) Vivek Syiem said that the police is not taking anything to chance and security will be strengthened in the entire city.
Stating that there will be additional deployment of forces throughout the city, the SP said that SWAT and SOT officers would also be deployed during the bandh period to ensure peace and tranquility in the state.
