SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Friday threatened to shut down all the centres functioning under the ‘Chief Minister Career Guidance Programme’ (CMCGP) by the beginning of March claiming that various anomalies in such centres have ruined the careers of many youths of the State.
Speaking to media persons post the meeting with Chief Secretary Barkos Warjri, KSU president Daniel Khyriem alleged that the government is indifferent to the wrongs in the centres run under the CM’s career guidance programme.
“We had apprised the Chief Secretary of the various anomalies in the centres in November last year but no concrete steps have been taken so far to address the issue,” the KSU president said while slamming the state government for allegedly taking the matter, which deals with the careers of hundreds of students, lightly.
“How can the government take the issue so lightly despite being apprised of the problem? The career of hundreds of students who are taking coaching classes for Civil Services examination under CMCGP are in stake,” Khyriem said adding that the Union has decided to close down all the centres operating in the State by the beginning of March.
Meanwhile, a student who had taken up the course demanded that “the centres should be filled with excellent faculty and students’ feedback should be taken at regular intervals by the district authorities”.
“Moreover, one teacher should not take multiple subjects,” he added.
