‘Centre hopes to resolve border issues with Myanmar’

Imphal:  Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday visited Moreh, the border trading centre between India and Myanmar, and interacted with jawans of Assam Rifles deployed there. “Visited the border town of Moreh in Manipur on Friday. India-Myanmar share a very cordial and warm relationship. India-Myanmar border offers unique opportunity to open links and routes for trade and commerce with East Asian countries,” Singh tweeted.
The Home Minister, accompanied by Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, also visited the ‘Friendship Bridge’ which connects India and Myanmar at Moreh.
“The Centre is looking forward to resolving border issues with Myanmar amicably through negotiations,” he said in another tweet.
The Home Minister also interacted with the jawans of Assam Rifles deployed at Moreh and commended them for their “good job” along the India-Myanmar border. Officials of the Assam Rifles briefed the Home Minister about the prevailing situation along the international border.
Moreh is a small border town situated on the banks of Lokchao river and the central government is setting up an integrated trade centre which will be functional soon.
Later in the evening, the Home Minister reviewed the security situation in Manipur with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and top security officials in Imphal.
Singh is on a two-day visit to Manipur and Tripura beginning Friday during which he is taking stock of the situation along the borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh and in the two Northeastern states.
The Home Minister will visit Tripura on Saturday during which he will interact with refugees of the Bru community about their repatriation to Mizoram, official sources said.
Singh will also tour some of the border areas along the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh and meet jawans of the Assam Rifles who protect the international border. (PTI)
