Market bodies, banks pledge to remain open

HNLC bandh today •Security beefed up

SHILLONG:  Security has been beefed up in view of Monday’s 12-hour bandh called by proscribed HNLC.
East Khasi Hills district police M Kharkrang on Sunday informed that the foolproof security arrangements have been made in view of the bandh.
“We will deploy additional forces comprising of State police in various areas of the city  and there is no  reason to fear any one,” Kharkrang said.
The proscribed HNLC has called the bandh in protest against attack on churches in Delhi, sufferings of the truckers during the transportation of coal and also for the delay in making the Mookhep firing report public.
The district administration has asked the education department to ensure that all the schools and colleges function normally. Besides, authorities of several banks have assured to remain open during the day.
MBOSE has already made it clear that the Board will go ahead with holding of Class  XI internal promotion examination scheduled for Monday.
Meanwhile, the Market Associations of Iewduh and other places have assured the district administration that they would keep their shutters
