SHILLONG: The District Administration of East Khasi Hills is planning to conduct consultative meetings in rural areas of the district on the proposal to resume Biometric enrolment for the National Population Register (NPR).
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal informed that the consultative meetings would begin from next week in rural areas where people would be apprised about the benefits of the Biometric enrolment for the NPR.
“The BDOs have suggested that the church leaders and organizations should also be apprised of the NPR,” Goyal said.
A consultative meeting was conducted last week over the NPR but pressure groups are still not totally convinced over the proposal to have Biometric enrolment for the NPR as the NGOs ant the State Government to pursue with the Centre to adopt a similar policy like that in Assam where the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was initiated ahead of the Biometric enrolment.
