Modi congratulates Yoga instructor on setting new record
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated Hong Kong-based Indian Yoga instructor Yogaraj CP, who created a Guinness World Record by performing Yoga continuously for 40 hours non-stop. He also lauded the role of the Indian Consulate in Hong Kong for their efforts to popularise Yoga and their support to Yogaraj. “Congrats to Hong Kong-based Indian Yoga teacher, Mr. Yogaraj C.P. for creating a Guinness World Record!,” he tweeted. “I appreciate the Indian Consulate in Hong Kong for their efforts to popularise Yoga & their support to Mr. Yogaraj,” he said in another tweet. The 29-year-old Indian yoga teacher set a Guinness World Record by performing Yoga continuously for 40 hours non-stop, demonstrating more than 1,500 ‘asanas’. Before attempting the record, Yogaraj had said if he succeeds, he will dedicate the record to Prime Minister Modi, who was instrumental in the UN’s decision to declare June 21 as the International Yoga Day. The yoga instructor did multiple twists and turns at his Tsim Sha Tsui studio, Prana Yogam, which was open to public for the duration of the challenge. AAP govt stops termination of contractual employees
New Delhi: Delivering on its poll promise, the AAP government on Tuesday put a restriction on termination of services of any contractual employee till a thorough review of the issue was completed, a move which will benefit around one lakh employees. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Around one lakh employees, including doctors, nurses, teachers, sanitation staff are working under contractual scheme in various Delhi government departments and agencies. “Services of any contractual employee should not be terminated or stopped till further orders,” said the brief government order issued to various departments. Sources said contractual employees whose contractual term was nearing completion would also benefit as they will be allowed to continue in service. Delhi government was in the process of carrying out a thorough review of the issue of contractual employees to finalise a policy framework, the sources said. Various government departments including Education, PWD, Health and Family Welfare and Women and Child Development had recruited employees under contractual scheme in the last few years. In the its election manifesto, AAP had promised to regularise services of contractual employees in various Delhi government departments and agencies. (PTI)
Woman staffer accuses senior IPS officer of molestation
Mumbai: A 32-year-old woman staff member of an IPS officer of Additional Director General rank has alleged that she was molested by him, police said on Tuesday. In a written complaint to Colaba police station, the woman alleged that the senior police officer groped her at his south Mumbai office Monday, they said. The incident happened Monday morning following which she lodged a complain with Colaba police. The woman, a widow who is into clerical work, claimed that the police officer had a few days back even asked her about her marital status and family background and subsequently called on her mobile phone to speak to her. “We took her written complaint and are verifying her claims. She says she was inappropriately touched by the IPS officer,” a police officer said on condition of anonymity. No FIR has been registered into the matter so far. “We are also verifying her phone call records and if she had faced any administrative action previously because of which she levelled such allegations against him. There are no witnesses in the matter. However, it will be an impartial inquiry,” the officer added. (PTI)
