180 posts out of 1200 to be reserved for women candidates in Special Force 10

SHILLONG: The results for recruitment of personnel for the Special Multi Task Force – Special Force 10 – is likely to be announced within this month and the first batch of the specialized force is expected to be  raised in the State by February, 2016.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Inspector General of Police, Meghalaya, GHP Raju, asserted that the merit list for recruitment in the SF-10 was submitted in October last year.
The SF-10 will be the first specialized police unit in Meghalaya which would have 180 posts exclusively reserved for women out of the total of 1200 posts.
The area of focus of the Special Force 10 will be to tackle insurgency, engage in riot control and to ensure communal harmony especially in the border areas. Formation of the Special Force 10 was necessitated in the context of lack of sufficient police strength to tackle militancy and other law and order problems in the State.
Reacting to a query, Raju informed that roughly 25,000 youths from the State had applied for the Special Force 10. He informed that the criteria for recruitment in the proposed SF 10 are completely different and special emphasis would be given to the height of the candidates.
After the results are declared the selected candidates would be given a basic induction course for six months in Meghalaya followed by another six months’ specialized training at Greyhounds in Hyderabad.
The Greyhounds are an elite commando force of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh created to combat left wing extremists. It is considered the best anti-Naxalite force in the country.
In the proposed unit, regular trainings would be mandatory for the police personnel and special emphasis would be given on their physical fitness.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya Police would constitute a special committee to identify the equipments, arms and ammunitions and uniform of the proposed SF-10.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had stressed on the need to fast track the recruitment for all the posts under the Special Force 10.
