Union minister visits NEIGRIHMS

SHILLONG: Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Harsh Vardhan has said that the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre is committed towards bringing all round development to the Northeastern region.
“The purpose of my visit to this region is to assess what are the things which are required to be upgraded in the region. We understand that lots of things have already have been done. But still lots need to be done to ensure that all the Northeastern States receive adequate attention which has been lacking for the past six decades,” Dr Vardhan said while addressing the faculty, staff and students of NEIGRIHMS here on Wednesday.
Stating that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given utmost importance towards development of the region, the Union Minister said “Every Ministry has been directed to give a special focus on the Northeastern states.”
Referring to NEIGRIHMS, Dr Harsh Vardhan, who earlier held Health portfolio also, said that it is one of the upcoming institutes of the country.
“Late prime minister AB Vajpayee gave this institute a national status. We have an emotional bonding with the institute. We will certainly love to see institute grows further,” he said.
Earlier, the Union Minister inspected the campus of the institute to assess the facilities provided to patients.
Dr Vardhan was pleased to see for himself  the  strides  made by  the  Institute in the recent few year ever since its Director, Prof. A.G Ahangar has  taken a lead role  and given the right directions in shaping and building the bright future of this institute.
He also expressed his deepest sense of pleasure on his first visit  to the state of Meghalaya and other North Eastern states, more so, the visit to NEIGRIHMS that he  desired for over the years while he was holding the portfolio of Health Department in the Union Cabinet as well as the Capital state of Delhi.
