Shillong: A public hearing on the performance of the MGNREGS in four GS Circles of Baghmara C&RD Block for 2013-14 was held at Nongalbibra, South Garo Hills on Wednesday attended by local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary Rophul S. Marak, South Garo Hills Addl. Deputy Commissioner Aloysius C. Marak, BDO, Baghmara Yosima W. Momin and others.
Almost all VEC members who attended the hearing expressed satisfied with the MGNREGS scheme and the Social Audit.
In his speech Marak thanked the people for sharing their views and comments by attending the programme and said, “The idea of hearing on social audit is that in case of grave irregularities and brazen misappropriation of MGNREGA money immediate action can be taken against the offenders and VEC secretaries can be sacked upon proof of their misutilization of funds.”
Two VECs – Nongal Colony and Do·bakkol Nengjama – were awarded cash prizes of Rs.10,000 each for their excellent work in the implementation of the Scheme.
