SHILLONG: John F Kharshiing, Co-Chairman, Meghalaya State Planning Board, had severely condemned RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s comments against Mother Teresa.
The RSS chief had stated that converting people to Christianity was the main objective behind Mother Teresa’s service to the poor.
Condemning the statement, Kharshiing said, “As one who has seen and met Mother Teresa from close quarters especially her humility and willingness to open the only leprosy colony at Nongpoh, in Meghalaya, the statement of the RSS chief is condemnable.”
“We are shocked and the nation is shamed by the reported comments of the RSS chief against an internationally acclaimed personality, such as Mother Teresa, who is loved and respected for her selfless sacrifice to provide care and shelter to the homeless, the sick and the destitute, irrespective of their religious beliefs, who were otherwise left to die on the streets of Kolkata,” Kharshiing said.
According to Kharshiing, “By such statements we as a nation have been shamed in the eyes of the international community.”
