KHADC plans to revamp markets

SHILLONG: KHADC Executive Member (EM) in charge Market, Donkupar Sumer informed that the Council is planning to revamp the various Council markets with the projects being funded by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB).
While replying to a cut motion during the fourth day of the Council’s budget session here on Thursday, Sumer said that a team of NFDB officials had last year visited the Council markets at Byrnihat, Laitlyngkot and Smit and had agreed in principle to sanction projects for the renovation of the markets.
The KHADC EM also informed that the Council has already submitted the DPR for the same to the NFDB and it expects to get the various projects sanctioned within September.
The Council is also planning to ease the congestion of the fish market through the NFDB funded project.
Informing that an amount of Rs 4 crore has been proposed for the project, Sumer said that the Council has also urged the Hima Mylliem to provide an alternative space for the fish sellers.
“We have also submitted proposals to the various Hima and Raid to allot land for construction of the Council market and the Executive Committee is waiting for their response,” he said.
