Nongthymmai SC win against NFU
Shillong: Nongthymmai SC defeated NFU by 2 wickets in the league match of the Super Division Shillong Cricket League 2015 organised by the Shillong Cricket Association at the SCA Cricket Ground, Polo on Sunday. Nongthymmai SC won the toss and chose to bowl. Being put into bat, NFU were all out for 164 39.5 overs. Purojit Mondal scored 54 off 85 balls, Sylvester Mylliempdah scored 38 off 65 balls. While Kunal Lama took 4/19, Rohit Chettri took 2/19. In reply, Nongthymmai SC reached the target in 39.4 overs losing 8 wickets. Wanlam Lyngwa scored 50 runs off 85 balls and Rohit Chettri scored 33 off 45 balls. Sylvester Mylliempdah and Purojit Mondal bagged 2 wickets each for NFU. 8th supercross series held in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: The 8th Supercross Series organised by the Motor Sports Club of Meghalaya was held at Mawlein-Mawkhan, Ri-bhoi District on Saturday. In the scooty category, the first prize was won by Naylin Chowhin while the second prize went to Bakmenlang Dhar and the third place to Rajat Tamang. In the expert category, the winner was Paominthang Vaiphei while the second runner-up was Diganta Barua and third went to Arupjyoti Injal, both hailing from Assam. In the novice category, the first prize was bagged by Nickyfast Thangkhiew while the second position was held Krishan Sewa and third runner up was B Lalruatsanga from Mizoram. In the ladies scooty category, the winner was Evangeline Niangti while the winner in the ladies bike category was Tina Collete Thangkhiew.
‘No remorse’ Lakmal fined for bowling beamers
Wellington: Sri Lanka fast bowler Suranga Lakmal was fined on Sunday for firing two successive beamers at England’s Jos Buttler, an action for which he showed “no remorse”, the International Cricket Council said. The incident happened in the 50th and final over of England’s innings in their World Cup clash when Lakmal bowled a second consecutive high, full pitched ball to Buttler, after being given a first and final warning by on-field umpire Rod Tucker earlier during the same over Lakmal was stopped from bowling at Wellington’s Westpace Stadium and reported to the match referee David Boon for dangerous and unfair bowling. He was also fined 30 percent of his match fee after pleading guilty to breaching rules that relate to “conduct contrary to the spirit of the game”. “While making my decision, I took into account that it is was dangerous and unfair bowling, there were no mitigating circumstances, and there was no remorse from the bowler,” said former Australia batsman Boon. Sri Lanka won the match by nine wickets, although Lakmal ended with expensive figures of one for 71 from 7.4 overs. (AFP)
Motorsports: Double for Karthik, Aryan
Chennai: Karthik Tharani Singh achieved a fine double by winning both the races in the MRF Formula 1600 class in the second round of the MMSC-FMSCI National Racing Championship which concluded here on Sunday. Karthik was fastest in all the practice sessions before qualifying on pole position with a lap of 1:41.886 and became the only driver to dip into the 41s all weekend. “It feels just fantastic to top all sessions in a race weekend. This is the first time I have done this in my single-seater career. A big thank you to MRF for giving me such a great car. I have improved a lot over the year and feel I was driving really well. It was a very strategic race and I am happy that it has worked in my favour,” said Singh. Also enjoying a successful weekend was Mohit Aryan of Anish Racing as he won two of the three races in the Formula LGB 1300 class. (IANS)
Punjab beat Assam 2-0 in Santosh trophy
Ludhiana/Jalandhar: Hosts Punjab beat Assam 2-0 in the opening match of the 69th edition of National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Sunday. The first goal for Punjab was scored by Prabhjot Singh. At half time, the scoreline was 1-0. Punjab striker Rajbir Singh enhanced the lead to 2–0 when he scored another goal through a header 10 minutes after the interval. Assam striker Suraj Mandal made several moves with William Gangte and Mintu Boro to reduce the lead but failed. Players of the two teams braved rain which poured during the entire course of 90 minutes of play. In Jalandhar, Delhi were held to a goal-less draw by Railways to share a point each in Group B. (PTI)
