Girl commits suicide after poor performance in exam

Muzaffarnagar:A class 12 girl student allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze here after poor performance in a board examination paper. The incident occurred yesterday at Titola village of the district. The girl was worried after failing to perform in one of her board papers, police said quoting her parents. She was rushed to a near by hospitals where she was declared brought dead by the doctors, they said, adding, a case has been registered and further investigations are on. In another incident, a-30-year old unidentified woman committed suicide by jumping before train in Shamli yesterday,police said, adding, a case has been registered and body has been sent for post-mortem. Two held for pushing woman into flesh trade
Thane:Two persons have been arrested for allegedly pushing a woman from Bangladesh into flesh trade here, police said today. Accused Sameer Rana and Pradhaman Sahnu were apprehended last evening, PI UG Jadhav of Shil-Daighar police station told PTI on Friday. Three others– Rabbi Mulla, Laxman and Rajeshkumar Srivishnudhari Yadav–involved in the sex racket are absconding, he said. According to police, the woman was administered some medicine rendering her unconscious following which she was trafficked to Mumbai from Bangladesh and subsequently sold to a brothel in Shil-Daighar locality. The five accused have been charged under sections 366(b), 370 and 370(a) of the IPC and also sections 3,4,5,6, and 9 of the PITA Act, police said adding investigations are on to trace their links to prostitution rackets. 34 tribal students taken ill due to suspected food poisoning

Rajahmundry (AP):At least 34 tribal students were hospitalised for suspected food poisoning in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh after consuming a meal at their hostel, officials said on Friday. The students were admitted to the government general hospital here last night after they began vomiting and complained of stomach pain following the mid-day meal at the government run tribal welfare hostel at Potavaram village, said Vijayaramarao, the in-charge project officer of Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) in Rampachodavaram (forest) agency area of the district. The victims have been kept in the Intensive Care Unit and will be under observation for 48 hours. Their condition is stable now, General Hospital Superintendent Vistnuvardhani said. District Collector H Arunkumar, who visited the students at the hospital, has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Students suspect that the eggs given to them in the meal were stale, the collector was told. The hostel is located in a remote area of Devipatnam mandalam, 100-km away from Rajahmundhry. The students were taken to hospital by the ‘108’ ambulance with the help of tribal officers after the hostel warden informed them. (PTI)

Two mowed down by truck

Mathura:Two women were killed while a man was injured when a truck hit them while they were crossing a road near Kotban area here, police said on Friday. Both the woman Guddi (25) and Devan (38) died on the spot while Gopi Chand was admitted in a local hospital here and is out of danger. Delhi bound truck hit them near Kotban under Kosi Kalan police station this afternoon, police said. “Though the truck fell into a roadside ditch, however the driver managed to flee,” DySP Atul Kumar Srivastava said. The victims were crossing the road for boarding a bus and had come to pay their obeisance to Peer Baba Ki Mazar. (PTI)

Man charged with kidnap, extortion arrested

Moga(PB): A notorious criminal was arrested and arms seized from him by Faridkot police, an official said. Jaswinder Singh Rocky was arrested on Thursday and one .9 mm pistol and .38 bore revolver were seized from him, Faridkot SSP Charanjit Singh said. Rocky was facing at least 17 criminal cases including those for attempt to murder, kidnapping, extortion and some cases under the Arms Act. These cases were slapped against him in various states including Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka, the SSP said. Rocky was arrested from Sadiq Chowk in Faridkot district on Thursday while he was waiting for his associates, he said. Rocky was also wanted in connection with smuggling of foreign-made weapons, the SSP added. (PTI)
