SHILLONG: The Lok Janshakti Party has alleged that senior citizens, particularly pensioners, were facing hardships during banking transactions at counter 41 of the SBI Main Branch in the city.
In a memorandum submitted to the branch manager of SBI, the party rued that counter number 41, despite being exclusive for senior citizens, provided services to others as well due to which the senior citizens had to wait for hours to get their work done. The party also alleged that the counter clerk was not cooperative towards the pensioners.
Introduction of the token system had not helped the cause of the pensioners, the party claimed.
The party urged the bank to initiate an exclusive counter for senior citizens with updated facilities, additional counter for family pensions failing which the party would take a legal recourse by way of filing a PIL.
