Girl commits suicide after being harassed for dowry; 5 booked
Thane:A 21-year-old married girl allegedly committed suicide after being harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry, police said on Sunday. The woman’s husband and four other family members have been booked for abetting her suicide, they said. Unable to bear the constant harassment by them, the girl hanged herself at her home on March 6, police said. Archana Mahadeo Angle, got married to Thane’s Dombivili township resident Mahadeo Khandu Angle in 2013 and since then she was allegedly being harassed by her husband and in-laws to get Rs 10,000 and 10 gms of gold from her parents, said S P Gaikwad, assistant police inspector at Manpada police station. Based on a complaint by Archana’s father Narsingh Kamble, who is a farmer from Tulzapur in Osmanabad, police yesterday registered a case against Archana’s husband Mahadeo, father-in-law Khandu Angle, mother-in-law Jaishree Khandu Angle, brother-in-law Datta Angle and sister-in-law Ashwini Angle. They have been charged under IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 304(b) (dowry death), and 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), police said adding that no one has been arrested so far in connection with the offense. Man beaten to death by four labourers
Thane:A 26-year-old labourer was allegedly beaten to death by four persons in Thane’s Kalyan township, police said on Sunday. Labourer Golu Lallan Jaiswar was brutally killed by four other labourers with whom he lived at a house in Kalyan, senior police inspector at Kolsewadi S L Daule said quoting a complaint filed on Saturday by the deceased’s brother. Golu was allegedly tied to a pole in the house and then beaten to death. The accused, all hailing from the same village in Uttar Pradesh to which the deceased belonged, also smashed the victim’s head with a huge stone, he said. The exact time and date of the killing was not known, but it is believed that the murder took place 2-3 days back. The cause of the killing was yet to be ascertained, police said adding that a search has been launched to nab the accused – Rimu, Sanjay, Lalman and Bhagat. An offence under sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) read with 34 of the IPC has been registered against the accused, police added. (PTI)
Woman killed, two others injured in accident
Araria:A woman lost her life, while two others were seriously injured on sunday when a dumper rammed into them in Araria district of Bihar, the police said. The accident happened on National Highway – 57, near an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) close to a railway crossing under Forbesganj police station in the district. The deceased has been identified as Shanti Devi (45). The injured are Rekha Devi and her husband Amar Yadav. Both of them have been admitted at Railway hospital, where their condition is stated to be critical. Forbesganj Station House Officer (SHO) Bipin Kumar said, “The three persons were returning home from Forbesganj Hospital, when the speeding dumper hit them. Shanti was killed on the spot.” The dead body has been sent for postmortem and the family members of the deceased and the injured have been informed. (PTI)
Woman with three children jumps into pond, two drown
Sitamarhi:A woman in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district on Sunday allegedly jumped into a pond with her three children to end their lives which resulted in the death of two of her children. The incident took place in Baya village. The woman, identified as Reena Devi, jumped into a pond with her three minor children in order to end their lives, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) M N Upadhyaya said. While two of her children drowned, the locals rescued the woman and her remaining child, he said. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, Upadhyaya said. Frequent quarrel in the family is stated to be the motive behind the extreme step taken by the woman, he said, adding the matter is being investigated. (PTI)
NUJS student dies after fall, murder complaint lodged
Kolkata:A first year law student at the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) died after allegedly falling from the hostel building of the institute here, police said on Sunday. Vikash Chaudhary, a resident of Delhi, fell from the third floor of the hostel building located on E M Bypass on the day of Holi and was seriously injured, they said. He was admitted to a private hospital in the city, where he succumbed to the injuries yesterday, Additional Commissioner of Police Bidhannagar Debashis Dhar said. Meanwhile, the student’s father today lodged a complaint with the Bidhannagar South Police Station alleging that it was a case of murder, police said. “Since it is an unnatural death and a complaint lodged alleges murder, investigation will proceed after we receive the post mortem report,” Dhar said.
