Five held from Ward’s Lake for drinking

SHILLONG: In a surprise raid on Sunday, Police picked up five persons from Ward’s Lake for consuming alcohol on the Lake premises in full public view.
The arrested persons have been identified as Alambok Hynniewta (37) of Laitumkhrah, Richard Khongthah (29) of Nongrah, Raju Kurbah (29) of Laitumkhrah, Weston Mawthoh (26) of Sohryngkham and Teibor Phawa (18) of Sohryngkham.
They were sent for medical examination and a non FIR case under Section 34 (6) of the Police Act was submitted against them to the court.
Police have warned people to refrain from consuming alcohol in public places, especially tourist spots.
“Any violation will be dealt with strongly as per provisions of law,” East Khasi Hills district police chief M. Kharkrang said.
