TURA: A daily wage earner was shot dead by Garo militants after branding him as a police informer in North Garo Hills district on Sunday night.
A group of militants claiming to be from the A’chik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) entered the village of Ambang Jambal at around 10:30pm and commanded 30-year-old Bretynath K Momin to come out of his home.
When the frightened villager came out of his home he was tortured by the militants by hacking him on the forehead with a dagger accusing him of being a police collaborator despite his repeated denials.
The militants fired at him from a close range with their automatic weapons. They also left behind a note written in Garo accusing the deceased of working for the law enforcement agencies.
Police recovered the letter along with three empty cases of AK ammo, three empty cases of 7.65 rifle and two numbers of 7.65 pellets from the site of the murder.
The AMEF was formed by a group of breakaway GNLA militants led by Jack Marak.
