TURA: The Shalom Meghalaya Peace Movement has strongly condemned the senseless killings that have taken place over the past few weeks in Garo Hills.
Recalling the frequency of the killings in the region from the brutal murder of five people by villagers at Mrigre, the killing of the son of a Nokma at Oragitok to the most recent and gruesome attack on a police team at Panda Reserve in South Garo Hills by the GNLA which killed four policemen, the peace movement condemned the killings while also expressing solidarity with the families of the victims.
The movement claimed an attempt was made to kidnap a doctor of the Bakdil run Babadam PHC while another staff was served a demand note of Rs.2 lakh and appealed to militant groups not to target those    who were rendering selfless service to the people.
It also made an appeal to police and the security forces to be cautious while exercising their duty so that innocent people are not victimized.
Shalom Meghalaya also urged the GNLA to call off its indefinite bandh at Ampati in the larger interest of the people of the region.
