SHILLONG: Police on Friday arrested an overground worker of Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) from city. Several items including a lap top, folding tent and mobile handsets were seized from his possession.
East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang said that based on intelligence inputs on the presence of overground workers of AMEF, a surveillance was put in all commercial areas of the city and on Friday afternoon, a youth identified as Rongsai Nokrek Marak (22) of Rongjeng was picked up from Police Bazaar with a brand new lap top.
The youth revealed on interrogation that he was sent by AMEF cadres to purchase the lap top and other articles for them to be delivered in Rongjeng in East Garo Hills.
Later, the youth led the police to Lumparing where he was lodged and from where a brand new folding tent was found which was bought by him for AMEF cadres.
Kharkrang also asserted that district police will make all out efforts to ensure that no militant outfit makes Shillong as its base for their criminal intent.
