JOWAI: Concerned over the poor Public Distribution System (PDS) in East and West Jaintia Hills, leaders of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) recently held separate meetings with the deputy commissioners of both the districts.
The meetings thoroughly deliberated on the problems faced by the BPL and APL card holders due to the poor functioning of PDS in both the districts.
The DCs assured that the matter would be taken up seriously, the HYC informed in a press release.
Informing of the problems in the PDS, the HYC said that the PDS items were not being distributed on a timely basis and the price of the items were higher than government approved rates.
The HYC also alleged that the fair price shops issued inaccurate scale of items to the card holders.
Meanwhile, the HYC also took up the issue of non-banking financial companies operating in the districts including Jeevan Surakhsha, Matribhumi, NSEM, Pala Group and others, which have been accused of duping several people in the two districts.
