TURA: The president of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Mindikgre Regional Unit, has filed an FIR against the Meghalaya Rural Development Society at Baghmara PS alleging misappropriation of Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) in South Garo Hills District.
Informing this in a representation to Meghalaya Inspector General of Police (IGP) GSU unit president G.M. Sangma claimed that although an amount of 1,51,50,000 meant for projects in South Garo Hills was drawn by the Society from the DRDA there were no visible signs of work at any of the location mentioned by the Society other than on paper.
Sangma further informed that as per records available the amounts were drawn under Tourism Sector Annual Action Plan 2011-12, Agricultural/Allied Sector for Action Plan 2011-12 and Industries Sector for Annual Action Plan 2011-12.
“During our inquiry at the various project sites it was found that there were no signs of any construction materials as mentioned in paper records. There were no caving instruments at Siju Cave or rafting boats on the Simsang River. As indicated on paper, there was also no construction of Ghats on two locations along the Simsang River at the time of filing of the FIR,” he said.
Sangma demanded that the matter be investigated by the Anti-Corruption Branch at the earliest so that action can be taken against the guilty officials.
