SHILLONG: The UDP has decided to meet the officials of Election department with concrete proposals aimed at achieving foolproof and accurate electoral rolls.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the party general secretary Allantry F. Dkhar said that party was seized of the matter relating to appointment of booth-level agents (BLAs) but added that it is an effort that still warrants sensitization and introduction at appropriate levels and time.
Referring to the recent comments of Chief Electoral Officer P Naik on UDP not appointing BLAs, Allan said that  it is not clear as to how best a BLA can serve and further clarification was not availed in the past  as the preparation for the Assembly , District Council  and Lok Sabha elections was underway.
The party has also taken strong note of the news report in a section of media  relating to the District Selection Committee – East Khasi Hills, wherein it has been alleged,  that meritorious candidates have been deprived of rightful appointment.
“The party has been advocating the need for on camera interviews, so as to maintain transparency and fairness to all concerned”, Allan said.
