SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Wednesday justified the foreign jaunts undertaken on a regular basis by ministers and government officials, saying, “Foreign tours are required. We need to enrich ourselves with knowledge and skills.”
“Many of the important interventions that we are designing today are linked to the amount of understanding that we have been able to gather over the years,” Sangma told news persons after presenting the annual budget in the Assembly on Wednesday.
Stating that knowledge cannot be accumulated in a single trip to one particular developing country, Sangma said, “It is a continuous learning process. We go to Delhi and we attend seminars and summits. We hold also various business summits. We continue to do it within our state, within our country and beyond the country also,” he said.
