Bengaluru: Rejecting the suicide theory and suspecting murder, family of the IAS officer who died under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday demanded a CBI probe as public anger over the incident swept across the state.
Upping the ante, the opposition continued their nightlong dharna in the Assembly, insisting on a CBI probe, stalling the proceedings for the second day after the government announced an investigation by CID which was seen by BJP and JDS as an attempt to “hush up” the case to protect “hidden forces.”
An emotionally charged family of the 35-year-old officer, D K Ravi, went to the Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat, and staged a dharna there, demanding a CBI probe and threatened to commit suicide if their plea was not accepted.
Ravi’s father Kariyappa, mother Gowramma, brother Ramesh and sister Bharthi said they want justice for their son, who had struck fear in the land and sand mafia and tax evaders.
“We only want a CBI probe. We want justice,” Gowramma said, with the other family members also echoing the same, as the family hinted at “political pressure” on Ravi, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan at a room in his apartment on Monday evening, with government saying it was prima facie a case of suicide.
“We don’t want to meet anyone,we want justice, and if they don’t give us justice we will commit suicide here,” Gowramma said.
Ramesh said, “It is not suicide, I suspect it to be murder… we don’t know who has murdered him, so investigation has to be handed over to CBI only then we will know the truth behind it.”
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah rushed to comfort the family, saying CID would do a fair probe and they would get justice.
As the family members persisted with their CBI demand, he said he would take an appropriate decision on CBI inquiry in four or five days keeping their anguish in mind after getting the post-mortem and forensic reports.
But this logic failed to convince the family members. (PTI)
