SHILLONG:Housing Minister Zenith M Sangma informed that the State Government is in the process of finalizing the new housing scheme — Affordable Housing Scheme (AHS).
“We have already issued the Expression of Interest (EOI) to identify the latest technologies which are available for construction of low cost housing units,” Sangma said while replying to a question raised by Opposition leader Donkupar Roy (UDP) in the Assembly on Wednesday.
He further said that the department has already identified two models.
Informing that the first model which will be at the range of Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh, Sangma said that the second model will be in the range of Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.
“The beneficiaries will be given an opportunity to choose between the two models even though the loan component will be included in the higher model,” the Housing Minister said.
Stating that the department is also planning to converge with the different centrally sponsored schemes like the IAY Scheme, he informed that the Government can provide a top up amount between Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 depending on the availability of funds to the IAY beneficiaries from the housing scheme.
While replying to a supplementary question of the Opposition leader on the beneficiaries of the scheme, he said that the department is yet to have the list of beneficiaries since it is yet too finalized on the guidelines.
