Man sets wife on fire in Jaintia Hills

JOWAI: West Jaintia Hills Police has arrested a man for allegedly attempted to kill his wife by setting her on fire at their residence at Priang village on Thursday night.
Marsan Tariang (23) allegedly poured kerosene oil over his wife Marsooki Tang (25) before setting her on fire. The couple’s three children, including a four-month-old infant, escaped unharmed as neighbours came to their rescue.
Sources informed that Marsan came home on Thursday in an inebriated condition and attacked his wife after both had an argument.
Soon after the incident he immediately went to Garampani Police Outpost and claimed that his house had been gutted in a fire.
The woman with more than 80 per cent burnt injuries was rushed to Jowai District Hospital from where she was referred to NEIGRIHMS.
Meanwhile, members of the KSU Iooksi Unit and KSU Jaintia Hills Unit visited the woman at NEIGRIHMS on Friday and later strongly condemned the incident while demanding severe punishment for the accused.
