Mary Kom promises Olympic Gold

SHILLONG: Boxing icon from the North East, MC Mary Kom has promised a gold medal in the Rio Olympics, if the mega event includes 48 kg category.
The five-time World Amateur Boxing champion, Mary Kom was in the city on Saturday to attend an awareness programme on cardiac diseases and cancer.
Stating that her preparations for the mega event are good she said that her first priority would be to qualify for the mega event.
The Olympic medal winning boxer, Mary Kom would be the brand ambassador of the Northeast to showcase the potential of the region.
Speaking about her career, the champion boxer said at the initial phase few people took note of her achievements; however, she came into limelight after winning big at the international arena.
Reacting to a query, Mary Kom, a mother of three, said the people of North East have enormous talent as far as sports is concerned but they need to be aware of the hard work and the physical fitness required to be a professional sportsperson.
She felt that sheer determination and will power are the major factors for success.
“If you are willing to sacrifice and if you have will power you will achieve success,” she said.
While admitting that people from the region are sometimes at the receiving end, Mary Kom said the adversities should only inspire them to do better in every field.
When asked about the movie “Mary Kom”, she said that 90 per cent percent of the movie was based on her life and sufferings and she was happy that Bollywood made a movie on her.
Meanwhile, addressing the gathering during the awareness programme, Mary Kom said that women should be more aware about the preventive measures for cardiac diseases and cancer.
