Kohima: The Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD) has appealed the ‘popularly elected representatives’ of the State to ’emerge from their hideaway’ to uphold the rule of law by maintaining the true spirit of democratic norms’.
ASTD President Sobu Jamir said it was deeply pained by the present affairs of the State due to lack of congenial political atmosphere, the ASTD urged the leaders to discharge their constitutional duties towards the public .
This was resolved in a meeting of the ASTD at its treasurer’s house yesterday. The statement said that ASTD expects legislators to stand up as ‘tonic’ in ‘ailing situations by not remaining within the four walls of security, when the general public is suffering.
‘ Furthermore, the ASTD also appealed all organizations and groups ‘not to hold any rally or agitations or call for ban without the concern of all the Dimapur based organizations for peaceful co-existence as Dimapur is the commercial hub of Nagaland where people from all over the country are living together.’
It may be mentioned here that the dissident group of Naga Peoples Front (NPF) MlAs are camping in a house at Sovima in Dimapur demanding change of leadership of Chief Minister T. R. Zeliang.
The dissident group had support of 21 NPF MLAs, but now both the ruling and dissident NPF group at present in balance as they have 19 supporters each, after three legislators left the dissident camp, namely Deo Nukhu, Dr Bengjongliba and Shetoyi joined the ruling NPF camp led by Dr Shurhozelie.
