Elderly couple killed as car overturns at Managiri in TN

Sivaganga, (TN):In a gruesome tragedy, an elderly couple were killed while another person was critically injured when the car in which they were travelling, overturned and fell into a gorge at Managiri near Karaikudi, here early on Saturday.Police said the deceased Chidambaram (61) and his wife Vasantha (54), hailing from Veppankulam village were proceeding to Tiruchirapaplli International Airport to send off their son C.Thangam (34), who is to leave for Singapore, this morning.Thangam is working in Singapore and he recently visited his parents on a vacation. He had already reached Tiruchirapalli and was waiting in the airport to board the Air India Express flight.The couple, who sustained critical injuries died on the spot, while their son-in-law who drove the car sustained multiple injuries and was admitted to government hospital. Man sent to 5 years in jail for possession of fake notes

Muzaffarnagar (UP):A man has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for possession and supply of fake Indian currency notes . Additional district sessions judge Mayank Chouhan held the accused, Nasimuddin, guilty of using fake currency notes and sentenced him to imprisonment on Friday. A fine of Rs 5,000 was also imposed on the convict. According to the prosecution, Nasimuddin was arrested on July 22, 2000 while he attempted to buy sweets from a shop in Thanabhawan in Shamli district using two fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination. Girl harassed by youths kills self

Muzaffarnagar (UP):A teenage girl, who was sexually harassed by three youths of her village on Thursday, has allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in Muzaffarnagar district, police said. According to police, the 17-year-old girl set herself afire on Saturday at her house at Luhari village in Charthawal police station area of the district. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Police said three youths had entered into her house when she was alone on Thursday and sexually harassed her. A complaint had been registered in this regard and police were on the look-out of the accused. According to the father of the girl, she was depressed following the incident and this might have led her to take the extreme step. In a separate incident, a 65-year-old man, Bhawer Singh, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house at Pirkhera village under Jhinjhana police station area of Shamli district yesterday, police said, adding that he had been going through financial problems. 4 killed, 6 injured in storm in UP

Ballia (UP):Four people, including a minor, were killed and six others injured in separate incidents related to heavy rains and storm in the district, police said on Saturday. Three people — Gulabi (55), Anand (10), Dasvatiya (57) — died in Maniyar police station area and another, Sudama (70), in Sukhpura police station area last night when trees uprooted in storm fell on them, police said. Six injured in these incidents have been admitted to the district hospital, they said. The electricity and communication networks have been hit because of the storm and traffic movement has also been affected. (PTI)

Two killed, 15 injured by lightning

Nashik:Two labourers were killed while 15 others were injured as lightning struck them in a tribal dominated village here, police said on Saturday. The incident took place on Friday night when untimely rains lashed parts of the district including Sadadpada village in Peint taluka where a bunch of labourers were working at a small nullah site (Kolhapur type ware), when lightning struck the hut, they all had rushed to take refuge in. Two labourers, Salik Krishna Rathad (20) and Krishna Choudhari (65) died on the spot, while 15 others sustained injuries and were taken to a rural hospital in Peint, said inspector V D Sase. Surgana, Trimbakeshwar and other parts of Nashik witnessed unseasonal rains last night while downpour along with hailstorm at many places has damaged standing crops in the last fortnight. (PTI)

Three killed as lorry rams into house

Warangal:Three members of a family were killed when a lorry rammed into their roadside house at Narsimhulapet Mandal in this district of Telangana state early today.
Police said the accident took place on the Warangal-Khammam National Highway near Beerisettigudem village, when the family members were fast asleep.All the victims died on the spot.The deceased were identified as Suneeta (35), her son Rahul (15) and daughter Pragati (13), police added. (UNI)

4 get 10 yrs’ RI for dowry murder

Bhind, (MP): A local court of Bhind has sentenced four people, including a woman, to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years in connection with the murder of a woman on charges of demanding  dowry.  According to prosecution, Roshni, the victim, was being tormented for dowry and pressurised to bring motorcycle ever since her marriage. Eight months after her marriage, the victim’s ubcle visited her in-laes to explain that the family had already incurred enough expenditure which was beyond their capacity for the wedding and hence did not have more money for dowry. He requested her in-laws to not harass his niece for dowry. However, her in-laws misbehaved even  with her uncle. When he left, Roshni was burnt alive.Following an  investigation, the police booked her husband Upendra Singh Tomar, brother-in-laws Murari Singh and Dharmendra Singh and elder sister-in-law Usha Singh for dowry. Additional Sessions Judge DC Thapliyal delivered the verdict yesterday. (UNI)
