New Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s desire to be on an extended vacation forced that party to delay the holding of a kisan rally.
The rally will now be held on April 20 at the Ramlila Ground in the national capital.
“This rally is taking place so late because Rahul Gandhi was on a vacation. Congress was waiting for Rahul Gandhi’s vacation to get over before they could think about farmers. This is the message they are sending,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told.
“Rahul Gandhi has all the rights to conduct a rally, but first let him finish his vacation,” he remarked jocularly.
Hussain said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre is concerned about bettering the lot of farmers and laws are being made keeping that in mind.
“They don’t have to worry so much. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is thinking about farmers and taking right decisions for farmers.
The farmers are not being ignored by the government, laws are being formed for their benefit,” he said.
On Monday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi announced plans for holding a ‘Kisan Rally’ to target the Centre’s contentious Land Acquisition Bill.According to reports, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi would also be present at the rally.
Rahul Gandhi took a ‘leave of absence’ from active politics in February to ‘reflect on the recent events’ and the ‘future course’ that the party should take.
The Congress later announced that Gandhi had extended his leave. (ANI)
