SHILLONG: With students from Meghalaya and Mizoram camping in Delhi finding it difficult to grasp Hindi as it was included in the curriculum, the North East Students’ Human Rights Organization has sought the intervention of the authorities.
The President of the North East Students’ Human Rights Organization Daniel Stone Lyngdoh, General Secretary N.Haineube, Public Relation Sccretary K Beisungia and other members appealed to the Principal of Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University to address the problems being faced by the North East students regarding Hindi language as a compulsory paper for the B.Com (Hons).
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, NESHRO said that it deliberated on the matter since March 26 after knowing the problems being faced by students from Mizoram and Meghalaya and other Northeastern states.
The NESHRO, with the support of all the North East students along with Professors from North East like Prof. Esther Ngaite, Head of the Department of Economics (Nodal Officer for the North East students ofSRCC) finally on March 30 met the Principal of the College and it was decided to exempt the first year students from North East as well as from South India from taking up Hindi and to opt other papers which are taught in English.
“ We are also in the process of helping those students who failed and struggle to clear Hindi paper in the previous years to let them write their examinations in other English optional papers”, NESHRO said.
The President, General Secretary and Public Relations Secretary of the NESHRO have also submitted a memorandum to the office of the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University for issuing the official notification not to have Hindi/MIL compulsory so that there will not be further confusion in this regard in the future.
