SHILLONG: The FKJGP Ri-War Mihngi circle, Pynursla has requested the Border Area Development (BAD) department to stop the release of funds for the 300-metre road at Nohwet village in East Khasi Hills since the project has failed to take off even three years after it was sanctioned.
“We have urged upon the BAD engineer not to release the funds to the concerned contractor,” the federation’s Ri-War Mihngi circle president, R Khongnoh said on Thursday adding that the estimated cost of the project is Rs 22 lakh.
Khongnoh claimed that the BAD officials and engineer tried to meet the contractor, Hoping-stone Khongkhohrem, who is also the headman of the village, several times but to no avail.
“The engineer while assuring not to release the bill till the work is completed informed us that there is constant pressure from higher ups to release the funds,” the FKJGP alleged.
Meanwhile, FKJGP central body organizing secretary Marbud Dkhar, who accompanied Khongnah, also alleged that BAD Minister Prestone Tynsong was exerting constant pressure on the department to release of the bill even without completion of the work.
