2 women thrashed inside police station

New Delhi: Two women were allegedly beaten up by a sub-inspector inside the Rohini south police station, following which four police personnel were on Saturday suspended. The women, in their complaint, had alleged that the sub-inspector thrashed them inside the police station on Friday, forcing them to confess in a case of robbery. Four police personnel, including the sub-inspector who had allegedly beaten the two women, were today suspended, Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told. The women were  taken to Ambedkar Hospital for treatment where a large number of locals created ruckus over the alleged custodial brutality. An FIR has been registered in this regard under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 330 (voluntarily causing hurt to extort confession), 342 (wrongful confinement), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC and under the SC Act, Bhagat said. A departmental enquiry has been initiated in this connection and investigation is underway, he said. (PTI)

Three die in Rajouri explosion

Jammu: Three people were killed and one injured on Saturday in a blast at a forest area near the line of control  in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.Police said three civilians were killed and another injured when the explosive device went off near Saryam village, Nowshara, of Rajouri district on Saturday morning.”Three civilians were killed and another injured when an explosive device went off in forest area near Saryam village at 9 a.m. today (Saturday),” a senior police officer said  in winter capital Jammu.The area is densely forested and close to the LoC in Rajouri district of Jammu region.A defence official said that a drifted mine exploded in the field of a villager who has already taken compensation for his land. Dust storm kills 14 in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: The severe dust storm that hit many parts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday has left behind a trail of devastation and death and officials on Saturday confirmed death of more than 14 people.Besides, over two dozen people were injured in the storm, the officials said.In Lucknow and neighbouring areas, eight people lost their lives, 320 hoardings were ripped apart and power transmission lines snapped, leading to power outages of more than 20 hours at many places.Harvest, mainly of wheat which was lying in the fields has also been damaged extensively, officials informed while adding that this has added to the already cup full of woes of farmers following heavy rains and hail strom last week.Mango harvest has also taken a beating in Kakori and Malihabad mango belts neighbouring Lucknow.Heavy rainfall has been reported since Friday night in Agra, Bareilly, Sitapur and some parts of western Uttar Pradesh.More such weather phenomenon are likely to occur over the weekend, the state Met department has predicted.Regional Met director J.P. Gupta said that the dust storm was a local phenomena which had developed due to “local heating”.”There has been extreme heat at some places while at some places the mercury is down by few notches and this yawning gap has led to this cyclonic circulation,” he added.The Met office has predicted rainfall in some parts of the state on Saturday and Sunday.
