Dist Admin carries out eviction drive in Nongpoh
NONGPOH: Taking strong exception to the encroachment of government-acquired land meant for the four laning project along NH-40 in Nongpoh town, the Ri Bhoi District Administration carried out an eviction drive in the area on Thursday.
Several land owners had encroached on the government-acquired land creating obstacles for the four laning project which was moving at a snail’s pace in the area.
A team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge Revenue P S Kharkongor and EAC, Jonathan Shylla accompanied by officials from the ILFS and NHAI conducted an eviction drive on Thursday and demolished buildings.
They were also accompanied by members of Nongpoh Town Committee and police personnel to prevent any untoward incident during the eviction.
“The District Administration had given sufficient time to all the land and building owners along the NH 40 to evacuate the portion of land for which compensation had already been paid to them, but inaction of many building owners, compelled the district administration to take strong action,” Kharkongor told The Shillong Times.
Kharkongor also informed that, for speeding up the completion of four-laning in Nongpoh Town, the district administration will continue the eviction drive from Nongpoh to Umlyngkdait.
Altogether, six illegal erected building were partly demolished by the District administration during the eviction drive.
