Power scenario in State

SHILLONG: The Fact Finding Team (FTT) constituted by the Opposition parties to study the State’s power scenario will soon place its report into the public domain.
Informing this here on Sunday, chairman of the team, Jemino Mawthoh said that the report is almost ready and only the views and suggestions of other political parties are to be incorporated.
When asked about the observations made during the exercise, Mawthoh said that the MeECL has not been able to meet the required annual revenue generation as given by the regulatory body and no leadership has been able to bridge the gap.
Mawthoh, however, added that the corporation, like any other entity, requires time to convert itself into a profit making unit.
He also suggested that the MeECL should have a ‘world class chairman for its operations’ even as he said that the corporation has some compatible engineers and officers.
The report which is scheduled to be completed within this month will be submitted to the government besides being out into the public domain.
According to Mawthoh, preparing a report will not be the solution to the ills that plague the power scenario in the State and the committee will intervene into the matter as and when required.
It may be mentioned that the team visited several power projects including the ongoing projects being implemented by the MeECL during its exercise.
