Rs 31 crore damage suit: Next hearing on Thursday

SHILLONG: The next hearing of the damage suit filed by the Meghalaya government against 14 pro-ILP groups for organising series of agitations over the demand to implement the Inner Line Permit system in the State will be held on April 9.
An organization Synjuk Seng Samla Shnong meanwhile attended the last hearing and in the next hearing, they are likely to submit their show cause before the court.
It is learnt that the list of witnesses will also be submitted before the special court during the next hearing.
Though it is almost a year since the special court was constituted to try the 14 pressure groups to seek compensation of Rs.31, 09, 50, 158 from the groups for the damages and loss of private and government property, during the ILP agitation but so far only few of them have attended the hearings.
The three-month-long pro-ILP stir in the State in 2013 resulted in filing of 121 cases, 87 arrests and three deaths.
