Doctor’s arrest for abduction of school girl: Police looking into rape angle

SHILLONG: Following the arrest of a medical doctor from Tura for abducting a 14-year-old schoolgirl and attempting to bring her to Shillong, Police are now looking into a possible angle of rape of the minor by the doctor – Jimmy Carter Sangma.
The girl was rescued on Saturday, thanks to swift action by Shillong Police, while the doctor was arrested when he was attempting to enter Shillong.
There are reports that the girl was allegedly raped twice by the doctor, which, however, will be corroborated by the police only after the police arrive with the accused in Tura on Tuesday.
Besides the case of abduction and possible rape of the minor girl, Tura Police will also investigate other criminal cases involving the doctor.
The arrest of the doctor comes at a time when he had offered his services to be a negotiator for peace talks between the State government and the GNLA militant outfit.
