Amit Shah says Centre will not tolerate corruption at any cost

Kohima: BJP national president Amit Shah, highlighting the initiative to develop the North East, has sent a strong message that the Centre would not tolerate corruption at any cost.
According to statement, Mr Shah issued by the party’s state unit, while addressing the BJP office bearers at Chumkedima Police Complex near Dimapur yesterday, said the North Eastern states do not lack funds and Central assistance. But corruption at many levels has hampered developmental projects.
‘Developmental policies and funds provided by the Central government for developmental purposes do not reach the people, said Mr Shah who is on a four-day tour of the North East.
The senior BJP leader urged state members to take developmental schemes, spelled out by the Modi government, to the grassroots level and monitor those to keep a check on corruption.
During the meeting, he also discussed the law and order situation in the state.
On the political front, the statement said Mr Shah was averse to having any alliance with the Congress.
He had categorically stated that “there can never be the BJP and the Congress in the same camp or in the same government.
Mr Shah had assured the District unit presidents that an office would be built in all 11 districts and asked them to undertake major connectivity with tribals across the state for the partys membership drive.
Later Mr Shah held a series of interactions with representatives of various tribal organizations, NGOs, besides members of the business community. He also met leaders of all religions in Dimapur, including Muslims, Christians and Hindus. state MPs, representatives of Eastern Nagaland Legislators Union and local media persons also held separate meetings with him.
Mr Shah called on Governor P B Acharya and discussed schemes for welfare of tribals, as well as law and order situation. In the evening, he met Chief Minister T R Zeliang, who hosted a dinner for the visiting dignitaries.
At a brief interaction with media, Mr Shah said he came to Nagaland on a goodwill mission and stressed on the BJPs development agenda for the region. Asked about attacks on churches he said that the party was against it.
His meetings with church leaders and various other organisations were positive and he would also go through the various memoranda submitted to him.
Party sources informed that the BJP president will depart for Guwahati today and later head to Delhi. (UNI)
